the first trial of North Node
ABB Motion Finland, a division that produces drives, motors, generators, and digital powertrain solutions that are leading the way towards a low-carbon future for various industries, cities, infrastructure, and transportation, is responsible for the first trial of the North node in the Zero-SWARM project. The project aims to develop and test smart, connected systems for industry, covering various use cases and industries.
The business group involved in the Zero-SWARM project specializes in Drives, which are industrial automation devices used for smart motor control. The North node trial covers two aspects of drive production: the production of drive cabinets and advanced connectivity, data transfer, and modeling aspects for drives.
Drive cabinets, which are groupings of several drive devices, are built using paperless production with server-based online software that allows for the tracking and confirmation of each assembly step. Wire markings are generated automatically from circuit diagrams based on customer-specified marking classes, and 3D models and views of the cabinets and their electrical components and wiring routes are available digitally. Augmented reality lenses are being studied to help with wiring and cabinet production, and 5G systems may be used for communication between tools used in cabinet production.
The second aspect of the North node trial covers advanced connectivity, data transfer, and modeling aspects for drives. Drives can be used as standalone devices or in larger systems in collaborative environments with other industrial automation devices in factories and process automation plants. Therefore, requirements for performant connectivity and data representation are present. The project addresses these requirements, covering use cases such as clock synchronization and Quality-of-Service of data exchanges. This is supported by industrialautomation project 5G systems and other technologies, such as OPC UA and TSN toolsets.
The Zero-SWARM project comprises 10 trials, covering various industries and use cases. The project aims to develop and test smart, connected systems for industry, contributing to a low-carbon future for various industries, cities, infrastructure, and transportation.
In conclusion, ABB Motion Finland is making significant strides in developing and testing smart, connected systems for industry through the Zero-SWARM project. With their innovative drives, motors, generators, and digital powertrain solutions, the organisation is playing a pivotal role in driving the low-carbon future for various industries, cities, infrastructure, and transportation.
